Real Madrid lose appeal over anti-gay Pep chant

Real Madrid has lost its appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against a UEFA fine of €30,000 and a two-year probation order stemming from fans singing an anti-gay chant directed at Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola during a Champions League match in February of the previous year. The three-judge panel, in a verdict dated April 14, ruled that the chant was 'of a severe discriminatory nature' and went beyond acceptable satire, with an expert witness linking the chant's content to implying Guardiola was 'infected with HIV/AIDS.' The probation order requires Madrid to close a section of its stadium for one Champions League game if further violations occur.
