Red Sox shake off nightmare flight, beat sloppy Yankees in series opener
The Boston Red Sox beat the New York Yankees 6-3 in the series opener at Fenway Park on Thursday, despite arriving home around 5 a.m. after their team plane suffered a mechanical failure returning from Denver. The Yankees committed four errors, three of which hurt starter Cam Schlittler, while Caleb Durbin β who had dislocated his pinky finger the previous day β hit a go-ahead two-run home run as part of a four-run fifth inning rally. Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy adjusted the team's pregame schedule to allow players extra rest after the overnight ordeal.
