Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story out several weeks after sports hernia surgery

Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story underwent successful sports hernia surgery performed by Dr. William Meyers at the Vincera Institute in Philadelphia, the team announced on Friday, May 22, 2026. Story had previously sat out the opener of Boston's three-game series at Atlanta and was placed on the 10-day injured list the following day. The two-time All-Star had warned that surgery could keep him out for as many as 10 weeks, having played in 41 of the Red Sox's first 43 games before the injury.
