Richard Carapaz to miss Giro d’Italia

Richard Carapaz will miss the 2026 Giro d'Italia after surgery to remove a perineal cyst, performed in Ecuador following the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, took longer to heal than expected. The Olympic gold medalist and former Maglia Rosa winner is now fully recovered and back on the bike, but the delayed return to training prevented him from competing in the Italian grand tour. Carapaz and EF Pro Cycling are instead focusing on the Tour de France, which begins in less than 70 days.
