Rivalry newbies Contreras, Gray fuel Red Sox's win over Yanks

The Boston Red Sox defeated the New York Yankees 5-3 at Yankee Stadium in their first meeting of the 2026 season. Willson Contreras hit a two-run homer — his team-leading 13th of the season — while Sonny Gray pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing 3 earned runs, to improve his record to 7-1. Both players were acquired by chief baseball officer Craig Breslow in offseason trades with the St. Louis Cardinals.
