Ronaldo's Portugal career ended in shame, but at his peak he was a dominant force

Cristiano Ronaldo has retired from international football with Portugal following a dispute with new coach Jorge Jesus, who had been managing his playing time during the UEFA Nations League. Ronaldo left the squad in a private jet in protest and received a 30-day suspension and a nominal fine as a result. While his final years were marked by controversy and criticism that he hindered the team, his retirement marks the end of a career in which he was widely regarded as a dominant force at his peak.
