Rooney: Martinez 'disrespectful' for United rant

Wayne Rooney has publicly criticised Lisandro Martínez for comments the Manchester United defender made after United's 2-0 Champions League defeat to Atlético Madrid on Tuesday, in which Martínez blamed director of football Jason Wilcox for failing to bring in enough quality during the summer transfer window. Rooney, speaking on Amazon Prime, called the outburst 'disrespectful' to teammates, drawing on his own experience of a similar public complaint under Sir Alex Ferguson for which he later apologised. The criticism comes amid a difficult run of form for United, with manager Michael Carrick having won just one of seven games this season.
