Rory McIlroy: Shinnecock Hills ‘won the battle’ at U.S. Open

Rory McIlroy failed in his bid to win a second U.S. Open and seventh career major at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York. He entered the final round 10 shots behind leader Wyndham Clark and bogeyed three of his first five holes, effectively ending any comeback chances. McIlroy signed for a final-round 3-over 73, finishing at 6-over par for the week and outside the top 30.
