Rory McIlroy wants to see the PGA Tour bolster but preserve national opens

Rory McIlroy has expressed his desire for the PGA Tour to strengthen but protect national opens as it restructures its schedule. The 2024 Genesis Scottish Open, beginning Thursday at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland, is one such event, having been co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour and DP World Tour since 2022. Recent Scottish Open champions include McIlroy, Xander Schauffele, Robert MacIntyre, and Chris Gotterup, all currently ranked inside the world's top 20.
