Rory McIlroy, the world No. 2 and reigning Masters champion, shot a five-under par third round at the BMW Championship in St. Louis to pull himself back into contention. This followed a strong six-under opening round that gave him a share of the lead, and a 69 on Friday. McIlroy had been seeking a response after a disappointing eight-over finish at the previous week's St. Jude Championship in Memphis.
