
Royal Ascot: Bow Echo and Billy Loughnane defeat Gstaad in St James's Palace Stakes thriller on day one
Bow Echo, ridden by jockey Billy Loughnane, won the St James's Palace Stakes on day one of Royal Ascot, defeating Gstaad in a thrilling finish despite a rough start out of the stalls. The 5/6 favourite had previously impressed in the 2000 Guineas, with Loughnane navigating the outside to secure the victory. Elsewhere on opening day, Ten Bob Tony caused a major 50/1 upset in the Queen Anne Stakes, and trainer Aidan O'Brien reached 98 career Royal Ascot winners with a double.
