Royal Ascot: Scandinavia seals Aidan O’Brien’s landmark 100th success with Gold Cup glory

Trainer Aidan O'Brien reached a landmark 100th Royal Ascot winner on day three of the meeting as Scandinavia won the Gold Cup, getting up in the final strides to defeat defending champion Trawlerman over two and a half miles. Trawlerman, who wore ski goggles to protect his eyes from the sun, appeared set to retain his title but faded in the final 50 yards having not run this season. Earlier on the same card, Earth Shot won the Ribblesdale Stakes under jockey James Doyle.
