Russell on pole: 'Biggest margin in whole career'

George Russell secured pole position at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku with a margin of 0.837 seconds over Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, the largest gap between the top two in F1 qualifying since Max Verstappen's 2023 Canadian Grand Prix pole. It marks Russell's biggest qualifying margin across his entire career, including his time in Formula 2 and GP3, and is his fifth pole of the season. His Mercedes teammate Kimi Antonelli crashed during qualifying and will start 16th, with Russell sitting 81 points behind Antonelli in the drivers' championship.
