Russia to host first sporting World Championships since invasion of Ukraine

Moscow has been awarded the right to host the 2030 World Weightlifting Championships, marking Russia's first major sporting World Championships since its invasion of Ukraine. This decision represents a significant return of international elite competition to Russian soil despite ongoing geopolitical controversies. The announcement has drawn attention given the widespread sporting sanctions and exclusions imposed on Russia following the 2022 invasion.
