Sawe makes history, sub 2hr at London Marathon
Kenyan runner Sabastian Sawe became the first man to break the two-hour barrier in an official marathon competition, winning the 2025 London Marathon in a world record time of 1:59:30. Runner-up Yomif Kejelcha of Ethiopia also broke the previous world record with 1:59:41, and third-place Jacob Kiplimo of Uganda finished in 2:00:28, meaning all three men surpassed Kelvin Kiptum's former official world record of 2:00:35 set in 2023. In the women's race, Tigst Assefa also set a women's-only world record of 2:15:41, defending her London Marathon title.
