Scanes gives Novuna GB & NI a golden start to the European Athletics U18 Championships

Joseph Scanes of Blackheath & Bromley Harriers AC won the European U18 men's 3000m title at the European Athletics U18 Championships in Rieti, Italy on July 17, 2026, clocking a time of 8:09.12 to claim the first gold medal of the competition for the Novuna GB & NI team. Teammate Finn Maclennan of Cambridge & Coleridge AC finished eighth in 8:20.16. The athletes competed in extreme heat, with temperatures rising well into the high 30s Celsius.
