Scottie Scheffler lurking in his hometown event, Taylor Moore leads at THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson
Taylor Moore shot the best round of his PGA Tour career to take the first-round lead at THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson in McKinney, Texas, ahead of Brooks Koepka, who carded an 8-under 63 and is seeking his first win since returning to the PGA Tour. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who won last year's event by eight shots while tying the Tour's 72-hole scoring record at 253, sits three shots off the pace after playing alongside Koepka and Si Woo Kim. Moore, whose only prior Tour win came at the 2023 Valspar Championship in his first 128 starts, sealed his round with a 14-foot birdie putt on the ninth hole.
