Scottie Scheffler shares seven-way lead on congested US PGA leaderboard
Scottie Scheffler, the world No 1, is among seven players tied for the lead at three-under par 67 after the opening round of the US PGA Championship, setting a record for the most congested leaderboard in major championship history with 42 more players within three shots of the lead. Rory McIlroy struggled badly, finishing four-over par after making four consecutive bogeys. South African Garrick Higgo received a two-shot penalty for arriving 30 seconds late to his tee time but still carded a 69 to remain in contention.
