Luke Evangelista scored twice and Dougie Hamilton and Arseny Gritsyuk also scored as the New Jersey Devils defeated the New York Islanders 4-1 in their NHL preseason finale at UBS Arena on Saturday, finishing the preseason 3-0-1. Evangelista, who signed a five-year, $36.25 million contract with the Devils on September 15 after being acquired from the Nashville Predators, opened scoring with a power-play goal and added a second just 19 seconds into the second period. Jake Allen made 22 saves for New Jersey, while Simon Holmstrom scored the lone goal for the Islanders, who finished the preseason 1-3-0.
