'Significant governance failure' at Sussex Cricket - report
An external governance review has found a 'significant failure of governance' at Sussex Cricket Club, which led to an operating loss of £1.33m in its 2024-2025 accounts and a financial agreement with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). The review identified that the club's board approved an 'unrealistic budget' and failed to act as income fell and costs rose, also resulting in points deductions. Ed Warner, appointed as new chair in July, acknowledged the club was 'over-ambitious' and lacked proper financial controls, but stated that turnaround efforts are already under way.
