Sonay Kartal misses out on maiden WTA 1000 title in Wuhan Open final defeat to Maja Chwalinska

Britain's Sonay Kartal lost the Wuhan Open WTA 1000 final to Poland's Maja Chwalinska 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, missing out on what would have been a historic maiden WTA 1000 title. Kartal had taken the opening set and held a break in the second, but French Open finalist Chwalinska fought back strongly to win in three sets. The result is nonetheless a career highlight for Kartal, who only returned to the tour earlier this month after a six-month absence due to a back injury.
