Sonay Kartal shocks Elina Svitolina at Wuhan Open

British tennis player Sonay Kartal, 24, defeated world number six Elina Svitolina 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 to reach the semifinals of the WTA 1000 Wuhan Open, marking her first appearance in the last four of a tournament at that level. The win is particularly notable as Kartal is playing only her third tournament since returning from six months out with a back injury. She had previously beaten ninth seed Belinda Bencic and former Wimbledon finalist Jasmine Paolini during her run in Wuhan.
