Source: FIFA targets doubling WWC prize money, short of equal pay

FIFA's administration is set to propose at least doubling the Women's World Cup prize money for the 2027 tournament in Brazil, with the proposal to be presented at the next FIFA meeting in December for full FIFA Council approval. However, the increase would still fall short of equal pay with the men's tournament, despite FIFA president Gianni Infantino's stated goal of achieving payment equality between the 2026 men's and 2027 women's tournaments. The 2023 Women's World Cup had awarded a record $150 million total financial package, including $110 million in direct prize money, representing a 300% increase over the 2019 tournament.
