Sources: CFP nearing deal for 24-team format beginning in '27

The College Football Playoff is nearing an agreement to expand to a 24-team format, according to sources who spoke to ESPN reporters Pete Thamel and Heather Dinich. The new expanded format is expected to begin in 2027. This would represent a significant increase from the current 12-team playoff structure that was introduced for the 2024 season.
