Sources: Infantino reelection path clear as Montagliani plans Concacaf stay

Gianni Infantino is set for a clear path to reelection as FIFA president after Concacaf president Victor Montagliani confirmed to colleagues he will seek to retain his confederation role, which disqualifies him from challenging Infantino. Montagliani had been considered the most likely candidate to oppose Infantino following backlash over the FIFA president's controversial plan to raise $20 billion through a partial sell-off of FIFA competitions, including the men's World Cup. The plan was abandoned within days of its July announcement after opposition from UEFA, Concacaf, and the Asian Football Confederation.
