South Africa in running to stage Africa’s first Olympics as 2036 race hots up

South Africa has been named among seven countries that will formally present bids to host the 2036 Olympic Games to the IOC in November, which would make it Africa's first Olympics if successful. The South African bid would likely be spread across Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Durban, but is considered a significant outsider. Qatar is widely regarded as the frontrunner, ahead of India and Hungary.
