Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has set the end of 2026 as the deadline to finalize the next cycle of engine regulations, with discussions ongoing between Formula One Management, the FIA, teams, and manufacturers. The talks come amid heavy criticism of the current 2026 power units, which feature a 50-50 split between internal combustion and electric power, prompting interim tweaks shifting the ratio to 60-40 in favor of combustion engines for 2027 and 2028. FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem has gone further, declaring that V8 engines running on sustainable fuels will power Formula 1 in the future, regardless of manufacturer preferences.
