Study finds that one in four former NFL players suffers from degenerative brain disease CTE
A study released Tuesday found that at least one in four former NFL players who died between 2016 and 2021 had chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain disease. Of the 878 former players who died in that period, 235 donated their brains for research, and 215 of those showed signs of CTE. The condition, linked to repeated head blows including concussions, can only be definitively diagnosed after death and causes symptoms such as memory problems, dementia, and mood disorders.
