Svitolina back on top of Rome eight years on, beating world Nos. 2, 3 and 4 in four days
Elina Svitolina, the world No. 7 seed from Ukraine, won her third Rome WTA 1000 title by defeating Coco Gauff 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-2 in the final, having also beaten Elena Rybakina and Iga Świątek in the preceding rounds to eliminate the world Nos. 2, 3, and 4 within four days. The 31-year-old's victory marks her 20th WTA singles title and fifth at WTA 1000 level, and she remains undefeated in clay-court finals at 8-0. Svitolina previously won the Rome title in 2017 and 2018, and becomes just the fifth woman to claim the trophy three or more times, joining Conchita Martinez, Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, and Iga Świątek.
