Tennis: Philippines’ Eala wins first WTA title, Fritz claims DC crown

Alexandra Eala, 21, became the first player from the Philippines to win a WTA Tour-level singles title, defeating top seed and world number three Jessica Pegula 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 in the women's final of the Mubadala DC Open in Washington, DC on August 3, 2026. The final was disrupted by rain and stretched across two days. Taylor Fritz also claimed the men's title at the same tournament, defeating teenage opponent Rafael Jodar.
