Tennis players’ group says arm injuries up over 100%, calls for shorter season

The Professional Tennis Players Association has raised alarm over a surge in injuries on the ATP and WTA tours, stating that arm injuries have increased by over 100% and calling for a shorter season. Multiple high-profile players withdrew from the Canadian Open in Montreal, including world No. 1 Jannik Sinner, 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz (wrist), and Felix Auger-Aliassime (back) on the men's side, while defending champion Victoria Mboko, Wimbledon finalist Karolina Muchova, Emma Raducanu, and Jasmine Paolini were absent on the women's side. The PTPA attributes the rising injury rate to reduced recovery time between tournaments and the expansion of top-level events, a concern echoed by tournament organisers who flagged recurring late withdrawals from Masters 1000 events as a growing problem for the sport.
