Alexandra Eala, the 25th seed ranked No. 28, defeated American Catherine McNally 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 on Saturday night to reach the last 16 of the National Bank Open presented by Rogers in Toronto. The 21-year-old Filipino star, who recently became the first Filipina to win a WTA title in Washington, overcame a strong challenge from McNally (ranked No. 73), who had previously upset No. 6 seed Linda Noskova in the tournament. Eala will next face Swiss 12th seed Belinda Bencic in the round of 16.
