The 2026 Diamond League got off to a raucous start in Shanghai/Keqiao
The 2026 Diamond League season opened in Shanghai/Keqiao with a record-breaking meet, headlined by Germany's Mohamed Abdilahi winning the men's 3000m in 7:25.77, breaking Dieter Baumann's German record by more than five seconds. The race was the deepest in history, with 14 men finishing inside 7:30, including Reynold Cheruiyot (7:26.11) and Sweden's Andreas Almgren, who set a Swedish record of 7:26.48. Additional national records were set by Mexico's Eduardo Herrera and Uruguay's representative, while Birhanu Balew broke the Asian record with a time of 7:29.60.
