The Open 2026: Herbert, Burns make history, McIlroy steadies ship - second round as it happened
At the 2026 Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, Lucas Herbert and Sam Burns both carded eight-under 62s in the second round, becoming only the fifth and sixth players ever to shoot that score at a major. Rory McIlroy steadied himself after a difficult first round, while American amateur Jackson Suber impressed with a five-under 65 in his Open debut, including an eagle at the 17th. Bryson DeChambeau also performed well with a three-under 67 after struggling at the other three majors this season.
