‘The scrutiny is constant’: referee Anthony Taylor retires from football
Anthony Taylor, 47, has announced his retirement from elite refereeing after a career spanning more than two decades and 831 matches, including 668 games in the professional English game and 16 years in the Premier League. His final appointment was the FIFA World Cup last-16 tie between Portugal and Spain in the United States. Taylor cited the constant scrutiny that comes with the role as part of his decision to step away.
