The sexual assault scandal rocked gymnastics – but has pace of change in the sport been too slow?

Ten years after the Indianapolis Star first published allegations against Larry Nassar, the former USA Gymnastics team doctor convicted in 2018, survivors and advocates gathered near the World Gymnastics Championships in Rotterdam to voice concerns about the slow pace of reform in the sport. Nassar's crimes, which saw hundreds of women come forward with allegations of sexual abuse, triggered a global investigation into gymnastics' failure to protect young athletes from sexual, physical, and emotional abuse. Despite the decade that has passed since the scandal broke, gymnasts say systemic changes to safeguard athletes remain insufficient.
