The Tour de France responds to the UCI's radical Grand Tour plan; the Giro and Vuelta are also opting out
The directors of cycling's three Grand Tours — Christian Prudhomme (Tour de France), Luca Guercilena (Giro d'Italia), and Javier Guillén (Vuelta a España) — have all pushed back against the UCI's proposal to shorten Grand Tours from 21 days to 16 days. The UCI presented the shortening plan, among other innovations, around the time of the World Championships in Montreal as part of a broader consultation process targeting changes from 2029 onwards. The UCI has clarified that the proposal is not yet a formal decision, but the unified opposition from all three Grand Tour organizers signals significant resistance to the radical format change.
