Tim Ream named USMNT’s World Cup captain, Pochettino announces - The Athletic

Veteran center back Tim Ream, 38, has been named the captain of the U.S. men's national team for the upcoming World Cup, as announced by head coach Mauricio Pochettino on Saturday. Ream, who has captained the side in 17 of 24 matches under Pochettino, will become the oldest player ever to represent the United States at a men's World Cup, surpassing the late Fernando Clavijo's record from 1994 when he features against Paraguay at 38 years, 8 months, and 7 days old. The USMNT is set to play a pre-World Cup friendly against Senegal on Sunday at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, which is Ream's home arena.
