Top five holds, Alabama rises in latest AP Top 25 college football rankings

In the latest AP Top 25 college football poll released October 4, 2026, the top five teams remained unchanged, with Texas holding the No. 1 spot despite receiving one fewer first-place vote (61) compared to the previous week. Three ranked teams suffered losses last week, all at the hands of other ranked opponents. Alabama moved up in the rankings, while teams like Kentucky (160 votes) and Wake Forest (142 votes) were among those receiving votes outside the top 25.
