Top prospects for New Jersey Devils

The New Jersey Devils' top prospect Ivan Silayev, a 20-year-old defenseman standing 6-foot-7, recorded 124 hits and 74 blocked shots for Torpedo in the KHL last season and was named an All-Star for the first time. He signed a three-year entry-level contract on June 1 and is expected to compete for an NHL roster spot at training camp, with his chances boosted by the trade of defenseman Simon Nemec to the Calgary Flames on June 23. Devils chief scout Mark Dennehy expressed confidence in Silayev's readiness, though the team may also option him to the AHL's Utica squad to help him adjust to North American play.
