Top seeds Elena Rybakina, Coco Gauff advance to Toronto QFs

At the National Bank Open in Toronto on Sunday, fourth-seeded Coco Gauff defeated Russian teenager Alina Korneeva 6-3, 6-1, winning 61.8% of return points to advance to the quarterfinals. Second-seeded Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan also progressed, outlasting Liudmila Samsonova 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in a nearly three-hour match featuring 217 points played. With the victory, Gauff became only the second player in history to reach 25 Tier 1/WTA 1000 quarterfinals before her 23rd birthday, joining Martina Hingis.
