‘Totally unaware!’: Unique rule stumps U.S. Open champ on TV
The 2026 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills was suspended early Thursday morning due to heavy fog shortly after play had begun. During the delay, USGA rules official Jay Roberts joined the USA broadcast, where analyst Tom Abbott posed a rules question that stumped lead TV analyst and 2003 U.S. Open champion Jim Furyk. Furyk, who won 17 PGA Tour titles and is set to captain the U.S. Ryder Cup team for a second time, admitted he was 'totally unaware' of the specific rule in question.
