Tour de France Points Competition

The 2026 Tour de France has introduced a revised points scoring system for the green jersey competition, with flat stage wins now awarding 70-50-40 points for the top three finishers, up from 50-30-20 in 2025, and intermediate sprint bonuses increased from 20 to 25 points. The changes are designed to favor pure sprinters, with only five clear sprint stages identified in the race beginning around July 2026. Tim Merlier of Soudal-Quickstep is noted as the fastest sprinter in contention, while Mads Pedersen of Lidl-Trek is highlighted as a key threat, particularly on stages 17, 18, and 19 where the intermediate sprint placement suits breakaway riders.
