UK’s Josh Kerr smashes longstanding world mile record in London

British middle-distance runner Josh Kerr shattered the world mile record at the London Diamond League on July 18, 2026, running 3:42.66 to break Moroccan Hicham El Guerrouj's 27-year-old record by 0.47 seconds. The 28-year-old was cheered on by a capacity crowd of 60,000 at London Stadium and nearly three seconds off his own personal best in the process. Kerr became the sixth Briton in history to hold the world mile record.
