UN human rights office slams racist abuse of Coco Gauff and calls for solidarity to help fight it
The United Nations human rights office, led by High Commissioner Volker Türk, has condemned the racist online abuse directed at tennis player Coco Gauff. In a social media post issued on Saturday, the office described the racist messages targeting Gauff as 'appalling' and noted that Black female athletes are specifically targeted for racial abuse and vitriol. The UN called for solidarity to help combat racism and sexism in sport.
