Eduardo Valencia became the 10th Detroit Tigers player to homer in his first career plate appearance, hitting a 425-foot shot to center field as a pinch-hitter in the seventh inning against Hogan Harris on Thursday night. Framber Valdez pitched seven strong innings as the Tigers defeated the Athletics 4-1, completing a series sweep and securing their third consecutive series victory. The 26-year-old catcher had been called up from Triple-A Toledo earlier that same day.
