Valencia makes dream debut, becomes 10th Tiger to homer in first MLB at-bat

Eduardo Valencia, a Detroit Tigers catcher who spent eight years in the minor league system, hit a home run in his very first MLB at-bat on Thursday, becoming the 10th Tiger ever to homer in their debut at-bat. The Venezuelan native overcame significant setbacks including Tommy John surgery and hand surgery during his journey to the majors. His seventh-inning home run came off Oakland Athletics reliever Hogan Harris at Comerica Park.
