Washington Commanders announce next player to have his number retired

The Washington Commanders have announced that running back John Riggins will have his No. 44 jersey retired by the franchise. Riggins played for Washington from 1976 to 1985 and was instrumental in the team's Super Bowl XVII victory. The retirement ceremony will take place at halftime of Washington's Week 9 game against the Los Angeles Rams.
