Watchdog chair asserts power to force City sale
David Kogan, chair of the Independent Football Regulator (IFR), has stated that the watchdog holds 'absolute power' to force Manchester City's owner Sheikh Mansour to sell the club if he is found to have run it improperly. Manchester City were previously found guilty by an independent commission of setting up 'sham' commercial arrangements that inflated revenues or reduced costs by over £900 million across nine seasons, and of obstructing the Premier League's investigation. City have lodged an appeal against the commission's verdict, and Kogan noted it was premature to discuss specific IFR action at this stage.
