Wayne Pivac: Super region would have strengthened Welsh rugby

Former Wales head coach Wayne Pivac has stated that Welsh rugby missed a significant opportunity in 2019 when a proposed merger between the Ospreys and Scarlets to form a super region did not go ahead. Pivac, who was Scarlets head coach at the time, told the Scrum V podcast that Welsh rugby would be in a 'different state right now' had the merger taken place. The Welsh Rugby Union is set to announce plans this month to cut one professional men's side by 2028, with Ospreys and Scarlets both competing to survive as the team representing west Wales.
